Calendars

House (April 19):  House Bill 80 (Vitali-D-Delaware) expanding the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards and authorizing a carbon sequestration network.

Senate (April 19):  Senate Bill 85 (Musto-D-Luzerne) providing for an independent counsel for the Environmental Quality Board; House Bill 687 (Dermody-D-Allegheny) adding upgrades to reduce water and wastewater consumption, production were included in changes to the law authorizing guaranteed energy savings contracts; House Bill 975 (Adolph-R-Delaware) further providing for continuing education for engineers, land surveyors and geologists.

Committees

House: the Local Government Committee meets to consider House Bill 1237 (O'Neill-R-Bucks) authorizing highway corridor conservation easements and limits on outdoor advertising.

Senate: the Appropriations Committee meets to consider  Senate Bill 1176 (D.White-R-Indiana), Senate Bill 1196 (D.White), Senate Bill 1197 (D.White) requiring mining permit fees to be adopted by regulation, House Bill 961 (Buxton-D-Dauphin) extending the $2/ton Recycling Fee to 2015.

Other: Environmental Issues Form, Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee, Earth Day Issues Forum featuring PA CleanWays, Center for Rural Pennsylvania on illegal dumping surveys and the 2010 Great American Cleanup.

Bills Introduced

The following bills of interest were introduced this week--

Drilling Requirements:  House Resolution 729 (Boback-R-Columbia) directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to review current law and regulations governing the development of natural gas within the Marcellus Shale formation.
 

Earth Day:  House Resolution 734 (Briggs-D-Montgomery) designating April 22, 2010 as Earth Day.
