DEP Issues Waste Transportation Safety Program Issues Annual Report

The Department of Environmental Protection issued the Waste Transportation Safety Program Annual Report for 2009 this week.
            The Waste Transportation Safety Act (Act 90), signed into law on June 29, 2002, requires vehicles transporting municipal or residual waste to waste processing or disposal facilities in Pennsylvania to have a valid Waste Transporter Authorization issued by DEP. Processing and disposal facilities may not accept waste from waste transportation vehicles that do not have a valid authorization. Authorizations are issued by DEP’s Waste Transportation and Safety Program.
            The report shows:
-- Total revenue collected last year for the Waste Transportation Safety Account was $2.3 million;
-- 68 percent of the total 6,421 waste hauler applications were processed electronically through the DEP's Greenport;
-- 29,239 vehicles were licensed during 2009; and
-- 52 Trashnet operations were conducted by DEP's six regional offices.
            A copy of the report is available online.  For more information, contact Joseph A. Kozlosky by sending email to: jkozlosky@state.pa.us or by calling 717-783-9258.
