PA Environmental Professionals Annual Conference May 12-14

The PA Association of Environmental Professionals will hold its Annual Conference May 12-14 at the Bear Creek Mountain Resort in Macungie, Pa.
The PAEP annual conference is a three-day gathering of environmental professionals from consulting, government, educational and private industry across the Commonwealth, offering premium educational, networking, and marketing opportunities.
Kicking off this year’s conference on Wednesday, May 12, will be the traveling workshop.  We will being with a visit to the Rodale Institute; a 333-acre organic certified farm devoted to research and education, including the Farming Systems Trial designed to compare organic and conventional farming practices.  After lunch, the workshop will continue with a tour of an active wetland mitigation site created by the Department of Transportation.
On Wednesday evening there will be an opening reception followed by a special presentation, How To Deal with All Kinds of People, by Chuck Yorks of McCormick Taylor, Inc., which will provide an entertaining session revealing much about ourselves and how we communicate with others.
On Thursday morning, the seminar portion of the conference begins with a single group session presented by Steve Deasy of Gannett Fleming, Inc. on sustainability, which will provide insight into internal company green initiatives, barriers, successes, and real-life project examples.
Three concurrent tracks of seminars will then discuss a variety of topics related to natural resources, regulatory/professional development, and pollution prevention/energy efficiency topics.
Lunch on Thursday will honor the 2010 recipients of the Karl Mason Awards, along with a presentation by Mark Schroetel, the Bear Creek Mountain Resort General Manager.  Mr. Schroetel will provide information on the many green initiatives in practice at the resort, and other environmentally responsible activities and actions that have been used to revitalize the property since its purchase by Bear Creek.
Following this presentation, attendees will be separated into two groups to view some of the resort’s green initiatives first-hand.
Capping the day will be the Thursday evening banquet, where Toby Fauver, PennDOT’s Deputy Secretary for Local and Area Transportation, will be the keynote speaker discussing Pennsylvania’s Statewide Rail Plan.
Friday morning will begin with an optional early morning birding tour on the Bear Creek trails, followed by breakfast and the General Membership Meeting and Board of Directors Meeting.  The conference will then end with concurrent sessions on the FHWA’s Livability Initiative and a discussion by PPL of the Customer Choice in Pennsylvania and the new commercial and industrial Energy Efficiency and Conservation Programs.
For those still looking to get outdoors, the conference will be followed by the PAEP Annual Conference Golf Outing at a nearby course.
If you are an environmental professional in Pennsylvania, you shouldn’t miss this conference!
