Senate/House Bills Moving

The following bills of interest saw action this week in the House and Senate--

Senate
 

Recycling Fee:  House Bill 961 (Buxton-D-Dauphin) extending the $2/ton Recycling Fee was amended to extend the sunset date of the fee to 2020 and to add a Waste Tire Pile Remediation Program was reported from the Senate Appropriations Committee and was passed by the Senate.  It returns to the House for a concurrence vote.

Mining Fees:  Senate Bill 1176 (D.White-R-Indiana), Senate Bill 1196 (D.White), Senate Bill 1197 (D.White) requiring mining permit fees to be adopted by regulation were reported from the Senate Appropriations Committee and are now on the Senate Calendar for action.

Drinking Water Week:  Senate Resolution 301 (Musto-D-Luzerne) designating the week of May 2 as Drinking Water Week was adopted by the Senate.

Arbor Day:  Senate Resolution 317 (Brubaker-R-Lancaster) designating April 30 as Arbor Day in Pennsylvania was adopted by the Senate.

Earth Day:  Senate Resolution 321 (Costa-D-Allegheny) designating April 22 as Earth Day in Pennsylvania.

House

Gas Leasing Moratorium:  House Bill 2235 (Vitali-D-Delaware) providing for a five year moratorium on leasing further State Forest lands for Marcellus Shale gas drilling was reported from the House Appropriations Committee and is now on the House Calendar for action.

Sludge Testing:  House Bill 1341 (George-D-Clearfield) requiring the testing of sewage sludge was referred to the House Appropriations Committee.

Earth Day:  House Resolution 734 (Briggs-D-Montgomery) designating April 22 as Earth Day in Pennsylvania was adopted by the House.

TreeVitalize:  House Resolution 758 (Santarsiero-D-Bucks) urging municipalities to participate in Tree City USA and TreeVitalize Programs was adopted by the House.
