Participate In Western PA Conservancy's World Environment Day Events
|

As the North American host city for World Environment Day, Pittsburgh is in the midst of six weeks of special activities that began on Earth Day, April 22, and continue through until World Environment Day on June 5. The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy is hosting several World Environment Day events in support of Pittsburgh’s special designation as host city. The WPC events include:
May 5 - TreeVitalize Rally: Tree planting and seedling giveaway, with music and special activities, to celebrate the planting of 250 trees in downtown Pittsburgh with funding from the Colcom Foundation. Held in honor of World Environment Day, this event promotes the importance of urban trees. May 21 - Water Matters! Local Water Quality Summit: The Western Pennsylvania Conservancy helped to transform our region’s rivers and streams – and plays central role today in protecting and restoring our priceless water resources. In support of Pittsburgh’s “Water Matters!” theme for World Environment Day, WPC will host a special session about water quality for members and media representatives. Senior staff members will describe the work of WPC and local communities to safeguard our rivers and streams. We’ll also discuss how our work impacts wildlife and improves quality of life, and, with former DEP Secretary David Hess, we’ll describe challenges and opportunities for the 21st century.
June 3 - Water Matters! Global Water Conference: Presented by Pittsburgh World Environment Day Partnership, this conference will be a milestone for our region in establishing water as imperative to prosperity - life, health, recreation, industry, competitiveness. Water Matters! will galvanize the region to address water challenges and opportunities and be a leader in providing sustainable water solutions for the world. Come be a part of a remarkable, eye-opening exploration of the ways Water Matters!
