Public Meeting To Help Shape The Future Of The Little Mahoning Creek Watershed May 19

One of the healthiest waterways in Western Pennsylvania, Little Mahoning Creek is a cherished natural resource. It provides significant recreational, economic and ecological benefits to the community and surrounding region.

In addition, Little Mahoning Creek is home to an abundance of fish, mussel and aquatic species, including some that are rare – and it shelters a significant population of eastern hellbender salamanders.
Join residents, landowners and other interested groups and individuals to discuss and plan for the future of the Little Mahoning Creek watershed at a public meeting hosted by the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and the Little Mahoning Creek Watershed Association on May 19.
Despite its benefits to the public and wildlife, the watershed faces threats such as excessive erosion and sedimentation – and public involvement in safeguarding the stream is critical to its long-term health.
At the public meeting, which takes place from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the Marion Center Community Building, representatives from the Conservancy and the Watershed Association will describe efforts, carried out with numerous partners, to protect and improve the creek.
In addition, WPC will discuss opportunities available to landowners interested in conserving the land and water resources on their properties. Time for discussion will follow the presentations, and refreshments will be provided.
For additional information, please call the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy’s Watershed Conservation Program at 724-459-0953.
