EPA Announces Winners Of Student Earth Day Poster Contest

Three Pennsylvania students were among the winners of the Earth Day Poster Contest sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region III office.
           The students were: Ella Schrand, 4th Grade, Philadelphia (photo), Vasiliki D., 7th Grade, Philadelphia and Gregory Yannes, 9th Grade, Freeland, Pa.  The posters are available online.
            Ninth-grader Gregory Yannes from the MMI Prepartory School in Freeland, Pa took honors in the “Climate Change” category for students in grades nine through 12.
            Vasiliki Dinoulis, a 7th-grader at St. Laurentis School, took honors in the “Protected Habitat/Endangered Species” category for students in grades six through eight.
            Ella Schrand, a 4th-grader at the C.W. Henry School, took honors in the “Protect Habitat/Endangered Species”  category for grades three through five. 
            The contest was for students in kindergarten through grade 12 in EPA’s mid-Atlantic region, which includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.  
            Students submitted hand-created drawings in three categories. Winning entries and others were displayed at the Philadelphia Zoo for EPA’s 40th anniversary Earth Day celebration.  Many posters continue to be displayed at the EPA’s Public Information Center in Philadelphia.
