Get On The Water With Paddle Penn's Landing's Kayaking And New Swan Boats

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council and Skyline Attractions are adding pedal Swan Boats to the popular supervised kayaking in the Delaware River
The Kayaks and Swan Boats will be available in the Penn's Landing Marina, located on Columbus Boulevard at Walnut Street, through October 3.  Each activity costs $5 per person. Hours of operation are Thursdays and Fridays from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be six solo kayaks and one tandem kayak available, and 14 swan boats (2 people per boat).
The kayak program offers Philadelphians and visitors (age 12 and up) the opportunity to paddle around the Penn's Landing Marina under the supervision of trained kayak staff. Guests are provided with an overview and safety instructions, and are helped into boats. Swan boats, which are foot-pedaled, are an option for families with younger children who want a more leisurely experience on the water.
The experience is also infused with fun facts about the Delaware River's history and ecology. This program aims to connect guests to the river, so that they appreciate the Delaware River as a natural resource and become better environmental stewards. Both programs are professionally operated by Skyline Attractions.
More information is available at the Paddle Penn's Landing webpage.
The Council promotes the protection and restoration of the natural and built environments through innovation, collaboration, education and advocacy with the private sector, government, individuals and communities as partners to improve the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians.
PEC created the Tidal Delaware River Water Trail map and web site, which guides boaters, sailors and kayakers to boat launches, amenities, safety considerations, and nearly 40 points of interest along the Delaware River from Morrisville to Marcus Hook.
Public Programming at Penn's Landing would not be possible without the continued support of corporate partners such as PECO, Verizon, Pennsylvania Lottery, Live Nation, the Philadelphia Coca-Cola Bottling Company and the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation, all of whom are committed to serving the Greater Philadelphia community.
The 2010 Summer Program of Free Events at Penn's Landing is funded and produced by the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation. All events produced by DRWC are FREE to the public on the Great Plaza, the heart of Penn's Landing, Philadelphia's premier Delaware River waterfront entertainment destination.
The DRWC is a nonprofit corporation created in January 2009, exclusively for the benefit of the City of Philadelphia and its citizens. The fundamental purpose of DRWC is to design, develop and manage the central Delaware River waterfront in Philadelphia. DRWC intends to transform the waterfront into a vibrant destination location for recreational, cultural, and commercial activities for the residents and visitors of Philadelphia.
For more information and event details, please call 215-922-2FUN or visit the Delaware River Events website.  This website is a virtual resource for the waterfront which can help visitors plan to easily park, play and stay all day at Penn's Landing.
