Calendars

House (May 24):  House Bill 80 (Vitali-D-Delaware) expanding the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards and authorizing a carbon sequestration network.

Senate (May 24):  House Bill 687 (Dermody-D-Allegheny) adding upgrades to reduce water and wastewater consumption, production were included in changes to the law authorizing guaranteed energy savings contracts;  Senate Bill 1176 (D.White-R-Indiana), Senate Bill 1196 (D.White), Senate Bill 1197 (D.White) requiring mining permit fees to be adopted by regulation.

Committees

House:  the Environmental Resources and Energy Committee meets to consider  House Bill 2213 (George-D-Clearfield) amending the Oil and Gas Act to further provide for ground and surface water protection,  House Bill 2214 (George) providing for minimum oil and gas royalties and House Bill 2234 (Houghton-D-Chester) eliminating deed restrictions on installation of solar energy systems; the Commerce Committee holds a hearing on House Bill 1637 (Cutler-R-Lancaster) creating the Office of Program Compliance for Weatherization Assistance; the Consumer Affairs Committee holds a information meeting with Direct Energy making a presentation on Smart Meters.

Other: the Joint Legislative Air and Water Pollution Control and Conservation Committee hosts an Environmental Issues Forum featuring a presentation by the PA Environmental Council on its Green Business Program.

Bills Introduced

The following bill of interest was introduced this week--

Coal Seams:  Senate Bill 1374 (MJ White-R-Venango) requiring the Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey to annually identify workable coal seams using money from the Oil and Gas Fund.
