Pennsylvania American Water announced this week 10 high school seniors throughout Pennsylvania have been selected to receive Stream of Learning Scholarships, with each student earning a $2,000 scholarship.
The company inaugurated the scholarship program this year to support outstanding students who are charting a course of study that is critical to the water and wastewater industry.
A panel of judges selected the winners from more than 40 scholarship applications, which were evaluated on such criteria as anticipated course of study, academic achievement, letters of recommendation and interest in future careers critical to the water and wastewater industry.
Pennsylvania American Water awarded its 2010 Stream of Learning Scholarships to Roman Bargo (Butler Senior High School), Bryce Beard (Red Land High School), Dustin Betz (Cumberland Valley High School), Benjamin Gauthier (Peters Township High School), Nichole Heil (Abington Heights High School), Raymond McGrew (Thomas Jefferson High School), Ashley Snyder (Holy Redeemer High School), Ryan Soule (Butler Senior High School), Paula Valdisera (PA Learners Online in Bethel Park), and Julia Zgorliski (Bethel Park High School).
“We launched the Stream of Learning Scholarship Program to encourage and support outstanding students who are pursuing studies that are essential to the future of our industry,” said Pennsylvania American Water President Kathy L. Pape. “These students not only exhibited a high level of academic achievement, but they also exemplify dedication to environment stewardship and to their communities.”
