Teachers Can Broaden Energy Horizons With Free Summer Workshops From PPL
|
Teachers can add an exciting energy-focused dimension to their students’ classroom experience next school year by taking part in summer Think! Energy workshops offered through PPL companies.
From Think! Energy workshops on energy and energy efficiency, to additional educational programs on weather and nuclear energy, there is something for all interests and grade levels.
The popular Think! Energy workshops are being offered at five different locations around the PPL Electric Utilities service territory from June 21-25. In order to participate in the Think! Energy Workshops, you must be a teacher in a school in PPL Electric Utilities’ service territory.
“Teachers can expand their energy knowledge in an engaging, hands-on way and pass that on to their students, who become wiser, more educated energy consumers. In the end, that’s good for everyone,” said Thomas C. Stathos, director of Customer Programs and Services for PPL Electric Utilities. “Providing information for customers so they can use energy more efficiently, save money and reduce their carbon footprint is part of our E-power mission.”
Other teacher programs being offered by PPL include “Heather’s Weather Workshop,” a program presented by WYLN-TV broadcast meteorologist Heather Dock. The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. June 30 at the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center, Hawley, Pa.
In addition, PPL Susquehanna is offering the week-long Nuclear Energy Seminar for Teachers from August 2-6 at PPL’s Susquehanna Energy Information Center in Berwick, Pa.
Now in its 28th consecutive year, the seminar provides objective, up-to-date information about the fundamentals of nuclear power, related nuclear power issues, emerging use of nuclear isotopes in the medical field, and the safe and secure operation of PPL’s Susquehanna nuclear power plant. The course instructor is Dr. David Simpson, a professor at Bloomsburg University.
The programs are free, but registration is required. All programs also offer credit hours toward Act 48 requirements.
To learn more about the weather and nuclear energy programs, visit the PPL TEA Workshops webpage.
Registering for the nuclear energy workshop is done through selected intermediate units whose information is included on the program site. There could be a fee from your local intermediate unit for Act 48 hours under the nuclear energy program.
