Save The Date: PA Sustainable Landscapes Conference October 19 In Scranton
|
The 2010 PA Sustainable Landscapes Conference will be held on October 19 at Marywood University in Scranton hosted by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and other partners.
Anyone whose work deals with landscaping, recreation, municipal government or environmental issues will find a wealth of information on how sustainable landscapes can be environmentally friendly and a cost saver, during a one-day conference in Scranton this fall.
The Conference will offer attendees hands-on tools and ideas to manage and develop their lands in a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly manner. Morning case studies will highlight local parks, residential neighborhoods, industrial centers and other businesses that have transformed some of their land into natural habitats.
Afternoon sessions will focus on natural stormwater management, invasive species, land use planning, natural resource ordinances and more. An exhibit hall will feature a variety of nonprofit organizations and businesses offering advice, as well as products and services for sale.
Sponsoring organizations include: Marywood University, DCNR, Department of Environmental Protection, PA Recreation and Parks Society, PA Environmental Council, Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority, Center for Landscape Design & Stewardship, Workforce Wayne, Lackawanna County Conservation District, North Branch Land Trust, Penn State Cooperative Extension, Stroud Region Open Space & Recreation Commission.
The $31 registration fee covers meals, handouts and $1 that will go towards planting a native tree on the Marywood campus to offset some of the carbon created by people traveling to the conference.
