Reservations Now Open For Port of Pittsburgh-Ohio River Watershed Celebration

You can now make reservations for the 9th Annual Port of Pittsburgh-Ohio River Watershed Celebration set for September 15 in Pittsburgh, reserve your spot now online. You can also nominate individuals, groups and local governments for the annual awards program by sending an email to Tom Grote at: tfgrote@verizon.net.
The theme of the Celebration this year is "Touch the Water" to reflect the improving water quality in the Three Rivers around Pittsburgh.
The Celebration continues to be free to the public through sponsorships from local businesses, industry, foundations, private citizens, and state agencies. The Prime Sponsor for this year’s Celebration is CONSOL Energy Inc.
The Celebration consists of two cruises: the Imagination Cruise on the “Empress” for students, parents and educators, and the Networker Cruise on the “Majestic” for adults (18 and over). The Imagination Cruise is full however the Networker Cruise is still accepting registration.
The Imagination Cruise will enable 400 home school/cyber school students (of various ages) and their parents/teachers (aboard the Gateway Clipper’s “Empress”) to sail the Allegheny River. Allow your student’s imagination to set sail during this fascinating and fun voyage upon the Allegheny River. Regional organizations dedicated to providing quality outdoor experiences will facilitate interactive activity stations aboard the “Empress” boat.
This cruise is a hands-on exploration of the Allegheny River Watershed for school age students, their parents and teachers. Students will receive a wealth of free materials, information and fuel for their imagination.
The Networker Cruise will sail on the Gateway Clipper Fleet’s “Majestic” on the Allegheny River through the USACOE Highland Park Lock and Dam. Presentations relating to watersheds and energy will be provided throughout the cruise. Many points of interest, current and historical, will be highlighted with a very informative narration.
Over 60 displays from local watershed groups, businesses, private foundations, and government agencies will provide an opportunity for everyone to learn about and celebrate our history, our accomplishments, and our future at a very relaxing and fun event! More specifically, this enjoyable cruise focuses on the Port of Pittsburgh and the Ohio River Watershed’s history of water quality.
