Environmental Heritage- DCNR At 15: The Tom Ridge Environmental Center At Presque Isle
Photo

Unveiled to the public in March 2000, the concept of “The Presque Isle Center” and greenway in Erie was a collaborative effort ending in the dedication of the Tom Ridge Environmental Center on Presque Isle

Having operated as a seasonal drive-in movie theater and flea market for decades, the state Department of General Services purchased a 12-acre parcel of land in August 2001 near the entrance of Presque Isle State Park.
After construction broke ground in October 2002, the center was named for former governor and long-time Erie resident Tom Ridge. It opened in 2006 on Memorial Day weekend.
