Audubon At Home's Newest Program... Bird Town
Photo

The Audubon At Home program already inspires people to better manage their communities for conservation, making a difference in their own backyards, local parks, schoolyards and work places.

The Bird Habitat Recognition program is an online property registry that provides tools for landowners to create healthy habitats. Audubon PA currently has more than 350 properties enrolled in the program, representing 50 out of 67 counties in the state. You can register your yard today online if you qualify.
Audubon PA is now moving to a dramatic new level - working with municipalities to promote sustainable communities through a new program called Bird Town.
Working with municipal officials, local environmental advisory committees and Audubon chapters, Bird Town provides educational tools, strategic planning and volunteer training to create community cohesion centered on bird conservation.
Collecting data in each municipality, Audubon tracks changes and provide towns with an annual "dashboard" of their status - evaluating habitat quality, stormwater runoff, money saved (by homeowners and the government), and of course, bird diversity. From these numbers, towns will set goals annually, and publicize their improving status.
Bird Town municipalities will be recognized for protecting birds and habitats; they will benefit from the cumulative impact of individual properties enrolled in Bird Habitat Recognition program to realize broad implementation.
While the initial focus is in southeastern Pennsylvania, due to staff location,  in future years Bird Town will spread across the commonwealth.  In Pennsylvania there are 1,554 townships so the potential impact of this program is incredible. Learn more by viewing our PowerPoint online.
