Onorato, Corbett Differ On Marcellus Shale Natural Gas Production Tax
|
Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato this week said if a Marcellus Shale natural gas production tax does not meet his priorities as Governor, he will ask the General Assembly to redirect the revenue to restore cuts to the Department of Environmental Protection, create drilling impact funds for local governments and fund a Growing Greener III program.
Republican candidate Tom Corbett has opposed a severance tax, but has said he would use royalties now collected from drilling on state lands and existing fees to give to communities being impacted by drilling.
Senate Republicans and House Democrats adopted a written commitment as part of the state budget settlement in July to pass a severance tax by October 1.
