PA Resources Council Announces Winners Of 2010 Environmental Awards

The PA Resources Council announced the winners of its 2010 Environmental Awards which will be presented at its annual Wine Tasting on Awards Dinner on November 18 in Valley Forge.
            The winners include:

Sustainability Award: Over the past decade, Sustainable Pittsburgh has continually worked to affect decision-making in the Pittsburgh region to integrate economic prosperity, social equity and environmental quality by bringing sustainable solutions to communities and business.

Zero Waste Award: The Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race expanded its zero waste initiative at the 2010 race by diverting over 12,000 pounds from their waste stream-- a 22 percent increase from last year.  Other zero waste initiatives included: composting, collecting leftover print materials for recycling, encouraging online registration, providing shuttle buses for the participants to the start line and other initiatives.

Community Service Award: Since 2005, the Chester Environmental Partnership has helped to address disproportionate environmental and health impacts in the city of Chester. Recently, their efforts have helped secure critical grant funding to maintain the Crozer-Keystone Kids Asthma Management Program from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Environmental Education Award: The Delaware County Conservation District is being honored this year for their continued effort to providing environmental education programs to its residents which promote the conservation of water, soil and other natural resources in Delaware County.

Green Building Award: SAP’s expansion of its North American headquarters campus in Newtown Square, PA, showcases the company’s commitment to sustainable business practices. The building has achieved LEED Platinum status with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Building Rating System. The project has also achieved the “Designed to Earn the Energy Star” certification.
