PA Environmental Council, American Water Co. Sponsor Streamside Tree Planting

The Pennsylvania Environmental Council, in partnership with the Pennsylvania American Water Company, sponsored a streamside tree planting project along Huntsville Creek in Luzerne County this week.
The planting included larger trees and is an implementation project of the Wyoming Valley Rivers Conservation Plan that was prepared by PEC in 2008. The purpose of the tree planting is to reduce stream bank erosion, improve water quality and to provide wildlife habitat.
The tree planting project is located along the creek as it flows through the Pennsylvania American Water Company Property along Hillside Road in Trucksville.
Volunteers received a brief presentation regarding the importance of planting native species of trees and their positive impact on stream bank stabilization and reduction of stream bank erosion, as well as, the water quality improvements made by the planting. The volunteers will also learn how to properly plant larger trees and how the plantings will be maintained.
The tree planting has been made possible by funding provided by the Pennsylvania American Water Company and the Department of Environmental Protection.
