Wildlands Conservancy Tops PALTA’s Land Conservation Accomplishment List

Wildlands Conservancy ranks high on the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association’s Land Conservation Accomplishments List. The biannual census from PALTA includes the ninety-one land trusts operating in Pennsylvania, which collectively protect 592,476 acres of farmland, forest, parks, trail corridors and other green spaces.
Among the 91 land trusts in Pennsylvania surveyed, Wildlands Conservancy ranks in the following criteria--
-- Acreage owned by a Pennsylvania Land Trust – 8th at 2,222 acres;
-- Acreage reconveyed to Government – 3rd at 34,276 acres;
-- Acreage under easement in Pennsylvania – 8th at 7,274 acres; and
-- Total # of easements held in PA – 12th at 63 easements.
“These statistics reinforce Wildlands Conservancy’s legacy in land protection efforts in the region.” Remarks Christopher M. Kocher, president of Wildlands Conservancy, “Protecting land through outright purchase or by conservation easement is the most permanent way to protect and improve our local environment for now and future generations.”
Over its 38-year history, Wildlands Conservancy has protected more than 48,000 acres of land with more than 80 percent of the organization’s conservation projects protecting woodlands, wetlands or streamside habitat.
