Capital RC&D Hosts Grazing Workshops January 20, February 22

The Capital Resource Conservation and Development Area Council is hosting two workshops for grazers and producers that are considering implementing a grazing program.
Designed to provide participants with enough knowledge to examine the possibilities within their own farm enterprise, these “Work It Out!” workshops will examine marketing assessment, food safety and handling, provide a broad overview of successful marketing schemes and the opportunity to ask questions of experienced grazers.
The first interactive marketing workshop will be for meat producers (poultry, small ruminants, pigs and beef)  on January 20.  The second, slated for February 22 focuses on dairy production including fluid milk and cheeses.
The location for each workshop will be the Olewine Nature Center at Wildwood Park, 100 Wildwood Way, Harrisburg.
Both “Work It Out!” events will feature a marketing assessment session with Ag Marketing Educator, John Berry and provide opportunity to learn about safety and handling  from Chris Raines,  Assistant Professor and Extension Meat Specialist at Penn State University (meat) and Kerry Kaylegian, PhD, Director of Industrial Outreach and Pilot Plant Manager at Penn State University (dairy).
The workshops will culminate with the opportunity to hear from producers using a variety of marketing methods to bolster their grass based operations and a restaurateur who uses grass based and local foods in menu design.  They will share details about their businesses and marketing and answer questions posed by workshop participants.
Registration is only $10.00 per person and includes lunch provided by The Sassy Gourmet (S. Wilson Pollack Center for Industrial Training) and all workshop materials.  Space is limited and registrations must be received by January 17 for the January 20 (Meat) workshop and February 17 for the February 22 (Dairy) workshop.
To register, provide your name, address, phone, and email, as well as a specific question you would like to have answered at the workshop and mail it with registration payment to Capital RC&D, 401 E. Louther St., Suite 307, Carlisle, PA  17013.
Registration information may also be sent by email to:  cburns@capitalrcd.org and mail payment to the previously mentioned address.
Additional information can be found on the RC&D events webpage.
