2011 Schuylkill Watershed Congress Set For March 12

The Delaware River Keeper Network is now accepting registrations for the 2011 Schuylkilll Watershed Congress to be held on March 12 at Montgomery County Community College Pottstown Campus.
            The Schuylkill Watershed Congress is an annual gathering of citizens interested in understanding, protecting and restoring local watersheds and streams. This event features a diverse program with concurrent and poster sessions covering a broad range of watershed topics.
            The 2011 Keynote Presentation offers a panel discussion titled "Economic Benefits of Protected Open Space in Southeastern Pennsylvania." Speakers include Nick Frontino, Economy League of Greater Philadelphia, Lee Huang, Econsult Corporation, Patty Elkis, Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission and Donna Pitz, GreenSpace Alliance, This panel will present an overview of a recent study that quantified in dollars and cents the value of the 200,000 acres of parks, preserved farms and land trust lands in southeastern Pennsylvania.
            This year’s program features 28 concurrent sessions and 7 poster sessions covering a broad range of watershed topics: Drinking Water Protection,  Hands-On Macroinvertebrate Identification, Meeting With Legislators,  Natural Gas Drilling, Restoration Case Studies, Water Monitoring, Green Infrastructure, Abandoned Mine Drainage Treatment System, Illegal Dumpsite Clean-up, Working with Volunteers.
            The 2011 Schuylkill Watershed Congress is made possible in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation’s Community Conservation Partnerships Program, and Pennsylvania Sea Grant.
            Register by February 25, to qualify for the $40 Early Registration Fee. After February 25th, the Registration Fee increases to $50 per person. Registration fees cover participation in Saturday’s program, Saturday morning’s refreshments, and lunch.
