PA Garden Expo Set for February 25-27 In Harrisburg

Gardeners from all over Pennsylvania can kick-off the spring season early by attending the upcoming 8th season of the Pennsylvania Garden Expo, presented by Stauffers of Kissel Hill Garden Centers.
The event is being held February 25 - 27 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
Local experts in landscape design will build full-sized gardens on-site in the Northwest Hall of the Farm Show Complex, each garden ranging from 2,000 - 2,500 square feet, covering a combined 55,000 square feet of space. The gardens will be elaborate with trees, shrubs and flowers, as well as hardscapes including patios and paths, water features, ponds, boulders and even outdoor kitchens and fireplaces.
The Education in Bloom project, now in its 6th year, brings students from Pennsylvania schools together with professional landscapers to build student gardens on-site in an effort to promote horticulture programs.
In the North Hall of the Farm Show Complex, approximately 200 exhibitors will display their products and services in the Market Faire. New features of Market Faire will include a Flower Market and an Arts Market.
“Our goal is to provide gardening inspiration, information and resources, so that the average person can go home and start thinking about their outdoor spaces,” says expo director, Cathy Ashby.
Hands-on demonstrations at the new Pennsy Supply/Belgard DIY (Do-It-Yourself) Demo Area and presentations at the Garden Talk Stage will also take place throughout the weekend. Topics of the weekend include: Growing and Cooking Herbs, Planting an Earthbox, Cutting-edge Plants for 2011, and many others. Roger Swain, former host of “The Victory Garden” on PBS, will be among the presenters at this year’s expo. The full schedule of presentations and speakers can also be found online.
Visitors attending the expo on Friday evening will enjoy a live concert. Lancaster-based country and folk music band, The Cultivators, will take the stage at 6:00 p.m.
Sponsors of the 2011 Pennsylvania Garden Expo include: Presenting Sponsor, Stauffers of Kissel Hill Garden Centers; PA Preferred Sponsor, PA Department of Agriculture; DIY Demo Area and Hardscape Sponsor, Pennsy Supply/Belgard; On-Site Garden Bookstore, Borders; Media Sponsors, abc27 WHTM, The Patriot-News and Pennlive.com; Family Night Sponsor, The Goddard School; and Senior Day Sponsor, Summit Homes.
