Gorell Enterprises Inc. of Indiana, PA and Giant Eagle, Inc. of Pittsburgh were among 50 businesses and organizations to win EPA and U.S. Department of Energy recognition for outstanding contributions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency.

Gorell Enterprises, maker of vinyl replacement windows, patio doors, storm doors and conservatories, has been an Energy Star partner with DOE since 1999. In 2004, Gorell was named an Energy Start Partner of the Year.

Giant Eagle, Inc. is a supermarket retailer in the Pittsburgh Region with over 215 facilities that is on the way to meeting Energy Star standards in 80 percent of its buildings this year.

Last year alone, Americans with the help of Energy Star, saved enough energy to power 20 million homes, reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to that of 20 million cars -- all while saving consumers $10 billion. More than 360,000 new homes have earned the Energy Star distinction, and more than 15,000 office buildings, schools, supermarkets and hotels have established benchmarks of their energy performance as a basis for future progress.
