Mine Reclamation At No Cost To Commonwealth In Westmoreland

DEP's Greensburg District Mining Office recently awarded a Government Financed Construction Contract to Robindale Energy Service, Inc., to reclaim 25.3 acres of abandoned coal refuse adjacent to Loyalhanna Creek in Loyalhanna Township, Westmoreland County.
The operator will remove all marketable refuse from the site for use as a co-generation power plant fuel. After refuse removal, the area will be regraded to blend with the original ground contour and re-vegetated with grasses and legumes.
The project will reduce pollutional loading of acid mine drainage to the watershed. The cost of the reclamation is estimated at $253,000.
