Technical Guidance & Permits

The Department of Environmental Protection published notice this week it is rescinding the policy issued by Gov. Rendell just days before the November election to require further evaluation of the impacts of oil and gas permit applications on State Parks and State Forest land.
DEP said in its notice the policy was being rescinded because it was not subject to any public review prior to being issued and that the agency already implements sufficient controls under Section 205(c) of the Oil and Gas Act in permit reviews.
Gov. Rendell leased over 137,000 acres of State Forest Land for Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling during his tenure.

Rescission: DEP ID: 550-2116-001. Policy for the Evaluation of Impacts of Oil and Gas Development on State Parks and State Forests. This document, which was not subject to advanced public comment or review, is being rescinded as unnecessary and redundant of existing practice.   The Department is implementing Section 205(c) and will continue to do so. The Department will continue to consider the input of all applicable parties with respect to public resources outlined in Section 205(c).
