Join The Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers To Plant 1,000 Trees
|

This year the Wissahickon Watershed Volunteers is holding their first ever spring planting campaign-- Spring for Trees! As Spring is once again upon us, they now ask for your help to further WRV’s mission of restoring the Wissahickon. They have a lofty goal of planting 1,000 trees in 2011! Please help them to meet this goal by March 21 by volunteering or making an online donation.
The Wissahickon Restoration Volunteers is a member-supported, volunteer-driven nonprofit founded in 1997 that actively protects and improves the natural environment within the 1,800-acre Wissahickon Valley Park in Philadelphia. Incredibly, more than 80 percent of the park is still forested.
But, the forest takes care of itself, right?
Unfortunately, the answer is "no," for the Wissahickon. Located in a city surrounded by millions, the forest shows significant signs of a degrading ecosystem. Lack of plant and tree diversity, severe erosion problems along tributaries, and too few seedlings are problems for a future healthy forest.
The forest provides a pristine environment for the recreation of its neighbors in Philadelphia; however human use introduces water and air pollution. These all contribute to a forest in need of our help. Today, you and I have the power to change that.
You can help them meet this goal by making a one-time donation. $10 to help plant a tree! You can follow their campaign progress on the WRV webpage, and as always they encourage you to come out to enjoy a spring stroll through the woods. Click Here for a link to their calendar of volunteer days.
