Brandywine, Red Clay Valley Assns. Sustainable Landscape Programs March 17, 19

The Brandywine Watershed and Red Clay Valley Associations are sponsoring a presentation and workshop in their Sustainable Landscape Series in West Chester, Delaware County.
The March 17 program will feature a presentation called, "A Journey Towards Sustainable Landscapes," from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m..
On March 19 there will be a follow up workshop from 9:00 a.m. to noon.
The Sustainable Sites Initiative (SITES) pilot project, the nation’s first voluntary rating system for sustainable landscapes!
As participants in the pilot project, local Landscape Architect Margot Taylor and soil scientist Russ Lasco will talk about how they are converting a 1.5 acre Kennett Square, PA property into a model for sustainability.
The program will be presented in two sessions.
First will be a visual presentation that will provide an overview of the SITES program. The leaders will examine how humans use and manage landscapes and explain how the program aims to create more sustainable land use practices that preserve and enhance ecosystem services.
The following workshop will provide a hands-on exploration of the design process and its integration with the SITES program. Participants will learn how to assess a site, develop a conceptual plan, and draft a site management plan using the Taylor residence as a model. Participants should dress comfortably and be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities.
The cost of the program for members: $5.00 for ages 13 to adult, for non-members: $7.00 for ages 13 to adult.
The program will be held at the Association offices at 1760 Unionville-Wawaset Road, West Chester.
