Citizens’ Toolkit to Prevent Illegal Dumping in Parks, Forests Now Available

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and PA CleanWays now have available a new tool kit, 'Tools for Change,' for citizens interested in cleaning up and preventing dumpsites in state parks and forests throughout the Commonwealth.

PA CleanWays has assembled a comprehensive, easy to use guidebook that includes information on: how to begin a change process; how to navigate local government; how to organize and run a meeting; and, tips for volunteer recruitment as well as useful contact information for dozens of non-profit, state and national organizations.

Also included are a series of inspiring stories about cleanup successes. How students in Erie wrote and received a Growing Greener Grant to form a Junior Presque Isle Lake Erie Watershed Association and residents in Westmoreland County created a community partnership that kept nearly 40 tons of electronics out of local landfills.
