Earth Day: Wissahickon Watershed Evans-Mumbower Mill Open House April 17
Bring your family and friends to join the Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association at the Evans-Mumbower Mill on April 17 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The Mill is at the corner of Swedesford and Township Line Roads in Upper Gwynedd. The Open House is free of charge but donations are welcome.
After 81 years, the Evans-Mumbower Mill’s waterwheel is finally turning and the millstones are grinding again. WVWA’s dedicated Mill volunteers have worked for 24 years to achieve this milestone. A Mill volunteer Alice Rogerson will offer a special demonstration of candle dipping for this Open House.
The Wissahickon Creek was an important center of industry providing waterpower for over seventy mills in the 19th century. The Evans-Mumbower is the only remaining mill in Montgomery County that is operational and open to the public. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
