NiSource Paperless Billing Campaign Generates $120,000 For Freshwater Conservation

NiSource Inc. in collaboration with its nine local utilities, partnered with The Nature Conservancy and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy to conserve and protect local fresh water areas with $120,310 in donations.
The partnership is part of the company's Direct e-Bill campaign that encourages its residential and commercial customers to sign up for free paperless billing. During the three-month campaign, each customer who signed up triggered a donation to support local freshwater conservation projects in their state. In total, 18,883 customers signed up during the campaign.
"We're continuing our commitment to environmental stewardship across the company," said NiSource Inc. President and CEO Robert C. Skaggs Jr. "This partnership is a great opportunity for our utility customers to support local freshwater conservation programs and save trees."
Projects vary across each state, but include: Freshwater conservation of the Buffalo Creek Watershed in Washington County, Pennsylvania (Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania and Maryland).
NiSource Inc., based in Merrillville, Ind., is engaged in natural gas transmission, storage and distribution, as well as electric generation, transmission and distribution.
