Spring Creek Family Festival Coming Up June 18 In Centre County

ClearWater Conservancy will hold its annual Spring Creek Family Festival June 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center in State College.
            The free, rain or shine event includes educational nature and conservation exhibits and hands-on activities by a host of organizations, live music and local food.

            In addition, the Spring Creek Heritage Award, given jointly each year by ClearWater and the Spring Creek Chapter of Trout Unlimited, will be awarded during the festival. The award honors an individual who has worked to improve or protect Spring Creek.
            “The Spring Creek Family Festival is a day for people of all ages to come to Millbrook Marsh and have fun learning about our environment. It is one our favorite events of the year,” said Melinda Turner, a board member at ClearWater and chairwoman of the event.
            Activities for children include a sing-along with Rene’ Oakman of Music Together of State College, a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, an aquatic bug hunt, giant bunnies, ambulance tours, animal tracking, rocks and minerals and pressed flower bookmarks and necklaces.
            Bluegrass music will be provided by the Tussey Mountain Moonshiners and Tolins' Bluegrass Revue. Webster's Cafe, Gemelli Pizza Oven and Sugar on Top will be on hand to provide food and drink.
            Exhibitors include Centre Region Parks and Recreation, Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, Schuylkill River Basin Commission, Penn State Master Gardeners, Centre Life Link EMS, Pennsylvania Game Commission, Nittany Mineralogical Society, Penn State Horticulture Department, Joe Jovinelly’s Giant Bunnies, West Branch Restoration Coalition, Bald Eagle Archaeological Society, Center County Solid Waste Authority and others.
            Sponsors of the event include Centre Region Parks & Recreation and Hilton Garden Inn.

            The Family Festival will be preceded by another ClearWater Conservancy event at Millbrook Marsh the same day, the Strides for Nature 5K and Kids Fun Run. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., the 5K starts at 8:30 a.m. and kids can get in on the action with a free Fun Run at 10 a.m.  Register online in advance for $18 or register in person on race day for $25 starting at 7:30 a.m.
            All proceeds benefit ClearWater Conservancy. Runners are asked to further support ClearWater Conservancy by taking advantage of the fundraising feature at Active.com.  In just a few minutes, runners can ask friends and family to sponsor their run and support ClearWater!
