Keep PA Beautiful Receives National Waste Management Think Green Grant

Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful Friday announced it has received a $10,000 grant from national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful, Inc. as part of a nationwide effort sponsored by Waste Management that encourages local solutions that improve community environments.
Now in its fifth year, the merit-based program received proposals from 60 affiliates across the country. Each proposal featured innovative projects designed to increase individual awareness about the local environment through hands-on participation and engagement opportunities.
The Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful winning proposal is to work in conjunction with The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh to build an outdoor classroom on the museum property which will be available to museum patrons and the Pittsburgh Public School System as part of their Head Start early education programming.
“Now more than ever, communities rely on grassroots nonprofits and their volunteers to engage in hands-on projects that build greater civic pride, create a healthier environment and improve the local quality of life,” said Matthew M. McKenna, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful, Inc. “We are truly grateful to Waste Management for the company’s commitment to our mission, our affiliates, and to local stewardship efforts.”
“The Think Green grants provide us with a great avenue to demonstrate how Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful think green every day,” said Judy Archibald, Director of Public Affairs from Waste Management. “After all, supporting communities - making them cleaner safer and helping improve their quality of life - is what our company – and KAB – is all about.”
Waste Management supports KAB on numerous programs designed to increase recycling and support community sustainability. The company is also a strong supporter of Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup, the nation’s largest community improvement program.
