PRC, Partners Host Pharmaceutical Collection Event October 29 In Western PA

The Pennsylvania Resources Council and partners Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and Pennsylvania American Water will once again collaborate with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and local law enforcement to provide residents of the Pittsburgh region with a safe and convenient option for disposing of their unwanted pharmaceuticals free of charge in the Pittsburgh Region.
The collection events will be held on October 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at these locations: the Green Tree Borough Building 10 Manilla Avenue; Mall at Robinson in the parking lot near Sears and Golden Corral; Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center, 900 Cedar Boulevard; Borough of Munhall, 1900 West Street.
In addition to the four events listed above, multiple drop-off locations will be available throughout Pennsylvania.   For locations in other parts of Pennsylvania, visit the National Take Back Initiative webpage.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  More than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs, according to the 2009 Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s National Survey on Drug Use and Health.
Each day, approximately 2,500 teens use prescription drugs to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet.
For updates on collection locations, visit the Zero Waste Pittsburgh website or call PRC at 412-488-7452.
