NHL Green, the National Hockey League's sustainability program, will reunite with the Pennsylvania Resources Council to coordinate a tailgate recycling initiative for the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic in Philadelphia on January 2.

The League partnered with PRC a season ago, for the 2011 Winter Classic. The recycling effort in Pittsburgh marked the first time in the Winter Classic's history that the NHL collaborated with a local environmental organization to collect recyclables at tailgate parties.
Tailgaters disposed of of 2.25 tons of materials-including 1,125 lbs. of aluminum cans and 2,700 lbs. of glass bottles - outside Heinz Field on January 1, 2011.
"We are again very pleased to partner with PRC in this tailgate recycling initiative and reduce the environmental impact of the 2012 Winter Classic," said Bernadette Mansur, NHL Senior Vice President of Public Affairs. "Tailgate recycling is a signature NHL Green initiative and would not be possible without the enthusiasm and participation of our great fans."
