Allegheny Land Trust Preserves An Additional 9 Acres In Sewickley Heights

Allegheny Land Trust has successfully conserved an additional 9 acres in Sewickley Heights Borough in Allegheny County.  The land, located at 266 Scaife Road, was identified in the Sewickley Heights Vision Plan, adopted by Borough Council in October 2010, as being a high priority for conservation.
John Oliver, a member of the Vision Plan’s Stakeholder Committee and Sewickley Heights Borough Mayor says, “I deeply appreciate Allegheny Land Trust for targeting this critical parcel of land that contributes so much to the high quality natural landscape of Sewickley Heights Borough. It would have been a great loss if this property had not been conserved.”
The property includes scenic meadows as well as a pond lying within the Little Sewickley Creek Watershed, one of the highest quality streams in Allegheny County. The landscape contributes to the Borough’s scenic character and provides recreational trails that are frequently used by the Sewickley Hunt and others.
Roy Kraynyk, Executive Director of the land trust says, “This project is a continuation of a long tradition of land conservation in the Sewickley valley that influences the quality of life we enjoy today. Just as we look back with gratitude to those that protected the permanent green spaces that we treasure today, future generations will thank the visionaries of today who realize that land conservation is an investment that pays dividends to the community forever."
Allegheny Land Trust has protected 1,500 acres in 22 municipalities since incorporating in 1993.  The mission of Allegheny Land Trust is to help local people save local land that contributes to the scenic, recreational, educational and environmental well being of our communities.
