The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has recognized PECO as 2012 Energy Star Partner of the Year for outstanding contributions to energy efficiency through PECO Smart Ideas, the company’s full suite of energy saving programs.
The award was presented during a ceremony held in Washington, D.C. on March 15 – marking the 20th anniversary of Energy Star.
PECO Smart Ideas offers many programs to help residential, business, government, non-profit and institutional customers save energy and money. In total more than 300,000 customers have participated in PECO Smart Ideas.
Since its launch in October 2009, PECO customers have reduced their electricity use by more than 1 million megawatt hours (MWh), saving almost $200 million through energy efficiency and PECO Smart Ideas rebates. This energy savings has the same environmental benefit as planting more than 1 million trees or not driving more than 1 billion miles.
“All of us at PECO are dedicated to helping customers save energy and money, and we are truly honored to be recognized by EPA for our efforts,” said Romulo L. Diaz, Jr., PECO vice president and general counsel. “Our customers have shown a great response to PECO Smart Ideas, and we will continue working to provide valuable, innovative programs to enable their energy savings.”
The Energy Star Partner of the Year Awards for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery are given in recognition of efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce pollution, resulting in significant cost savings. Award winners are selected from about 20,000 organizations that participate in the Energy Star program.
During the past 20 years, families and businesses across the U.S. have saved nearly $230 billion on utility bills and prevented greenhouse gas emissions equal to those from more than 530 million vehicles with help from Energy Star.
“As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Energy Star program, EPA is proud to recognize PECO with the 2012 Energy Star Partner of the Year Award for Energy Efficiency Program Delivery,” said EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson. “PECO and all our Energy Star award winners are helping Americans find cost-effective ways to save energy in everything we do, which is good for our climate, our health and our future.”
