Thank a Veteran This Memorial Day

In a letter to the Philadelphia Inquirer this week, Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee chair Sen. Mary Jo White (R-Venango) said the Governor and the General Assembly need to be ‘deliberate” in crafting legislation to implement the $625 million bond issue passed by voters May 17 to avoid “political mischief.”

She also said she was disappointed the paper had dismissed a Senate proposal to consider allocating some bond proceeds to counties, saying she and other Senators will “remain committed to involving counties to ensure that all who pay for the bond will also realize its benefits.”

Sen. White said there was time to work out the important details of how to spend the funds because there is no statutory time frame attached to passing the implementing legislation, noting Pennsylvania would continue to benefit from the $88 million that is already allocated every year through June 2012 for the existing Growing Greener Program.
