Eric Cavazza Appointed Director Of DEP’s Bureau Of Abandoned Mine Reclamation

The Department of Environmental Protection Friday announced the appointment of  Eric Cavazza as Director of the Bureau of Abandoned Mine Reclamation in the Office of Active and Abandoned Mine Operations

Cavazza has over 27 years of experience with the Department and has been the Acting Director since February. Prior to his appointment he was District Manager/Engineer for the Cambria District Office for BAMR. 

He has also served as the Chief of the Design Section for the Cambria District Office and Acting Division Chief for the Bureau’s Division of Acid Mine Drainage Abatement, where he performed, assigned or reviewed the engineering design of departmental mine reclamation, water supply replacements, mine fire control, subsidence control, abandoned mine lands projects and other associated facilities.

He began his career at the Department as a Mining Engineer in the Bureau’s Investigations, Planning and Project Development Section in the Cambria District Office.

Cavazza holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining Engineering and a Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA. He and his family reside in Indiana, Indiana County.
