Weis Markets Joins Farm Aid 2012 On September 22

Weis Markets announced it will be a sponsor of Farm Aid 2012, a concert dedicated to American family farmers featuring music performed by America’s premier artists, including Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp and Dave Matthews.

Weis Markets’ volunteers will be assisting Farm Aid to help create a Zero Waste event.  The waste generated at the event will be recycled or composted with minimal trash going to the landfill for disposal.

The concert will be held on September 22 at Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA.

“Buying and selling local produce and dairy products is an essential part of who we are.  It’s good for our home state’s agricultural economy and it helps us reduce our food miles, which is good for the environment,” said Brian Holt, Weis Markets Vice President of Marketing.  “Being a part of Farm Aid 2012 highlights our commitment to the work of family farms throughout our five state market-area and our country.”

As part of its sponsorship, Weis Markets will hold a contest on its Facebook page for a chance to win three sets of Farm Aid 2012 concert tickets to entrants offering the best summer recipes.

Also at the concert site, HOMEGROWN Concessions will feature good food from family farmers and a HOMEGROWN Village of interactive exhibits will offer experiences in food and farming.
