The Delaware Riverkeeper Network is pleased to announce the Call for Presenters for the 2013 Watershed Congress along the Schuylkill. 

The Congress will be held March 9 at the Montgomery County Community College-West Campus in Pottstown, Pa.

Submissions due by 5:00 p.m., October 31.

The Watershed Congress has evolved over 15 years to advance the best available information and techniques for protecting and restoring watersheds.  The focus on networking across disciplines means that Watershed Congress melds science, policy and practical applications into one program. 

As a result, the annual Watershed Congress is a highly anticipated event for people interested in understanding, protecting and restoring their local streams. Every year, a growing and changing group of individuals attends the Congress to gain new knowledge, acquire tools, and practice techniques that will allow them to take active roles in the stewardship of their natural resources.

The Watershed Congress Organizing Committee, which is chaired by the Delaware Riverkeeper Network, is now accepting session proposals.  Help us protect and conserve our natural resources by sharing your expertise with a concerned and active audience.

Past participants requested the following topics, but we will consider all suggestions:

Stormwater Best Management Practices; Pollution Impact Studies; Green Infrastructure; Stream Restoration; Maintenance and Evaluation of Best Management Practices; Fish Passage and Dam Removal; Sewage Treatment Plants and Their Impacts; Aquatic Ecology; Invasive Control; Long-Term Trend Monitoring; Floodplain Management and Buyouts; Marcellus Shale Impacts; Macroinvertebrate Identification; Working With Volunteers;Water Quality Trends in the Schuylkill River; Project Fundraising Process; Restoration of Abandoned Mine Lands; Urban Forestry; Impacts of Reforestation on Water Quality; Gas Drilling Updates; Rare/Threatened/Endangered Species; Wikiwatershed Update; Urban Leadership on Watershed Issues; “Shad in Schools” and other education programs; Drug Take-Back Initiatives; Water Conservation; Aging Water and Sewer Infrastructure; and Successful Collaboration for Stream Restoration.

Sessions must include a question and answer component.  Hands-on, interactive presentations are encouraged.

The 2013 Schuylkill Watershed Congress is made possible in part by a grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Bureau of Recreation and Conservation’s Environmental Stewardship Fund, and Pennsylvania Sea Grant.
