With forecasters predicting a cold, longer winter, the Public Utility Commission continues to prepare for winter by asking industry experts what they expect for natural gas and propane reliability for the winter months. The PUC announced Friday its annual Winter Reliability Assessment Forum, which provides a snapshot of various conditions that may affect natural gas and propane supply, price and service reliability for the upcoming winter, will be held November 8 in Harrisburg. “As we continue to prepare for the winter heating season and the associated increased use of natural gas, this forum helps to ensure the Commission and the natural gas and pipeline industries are in communication regarding natural gas supply information, as well as reliability expectations,” said Vice Chairman John F. Coleman Jr. “This forum is an important piece of our “Prepare Now” campaign, which is in its 10th year. At the same time the Commission is working the ensure reliability for winter, we remind residents they too should prepare for winter heating costs.” The Winter Reliability Assessment Forum will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Hearing Room 1 of the Commonwealth Keystone Building. Representatives from the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, PECO Energy Co., UGI Utilities Inc., UGI Energy Services Inc., Spectra Energy Transmission LLC, NiSource Gas Transmission and Storage have been invited to speak. An agenda for the meeting is available. PUC Vice Chairman John F. Coleman Jr. will provide opening remarks. This month, the Commission kicked off the campaign by sending a letter to electric and natural gas utilities urging them to take extra steps to help consumers “Prepare Now” for winter heating costs. The PUC’s message is simple: “Prepare Now” for higher energy costs this winter. Learn about changes in the law related to utility shut-offs and know your rights. Save money by learning how to conserve energy. Heat your home safely. Explore budget billing options. Look into programs that help low-income customers restore and maintain service. |
