Continuing Resolution Fixes Federal Abandoned Mine Funding, For Now

A continuing budget resolution passed by Congress at the end of last year fixed the funding allocation in the federal Abandoned Mine Reclamation Program which would have reduced mine cleanup funding to Pennsylvania by $200 million over the next 10 years, according to John Dawes at the Foundation for Pennsylvania Watersheds.

The threat to Pennsylvania’s federal mine reclamation funding may not be over.  The continuing budget resolution adopted by Congress runs out at the end of March and attempts could be made by those who originally changed the formula to deny Pennsylvania funding as federal budget discussions continue.
