Nature Abounds Seeks Sponsoring Groups For PA Senior Environment Corps

Nature Abounds, a national non-profit headquartered in Central Pennsylvania, is seeking sponsoring organizations for the Pennsylvania Senior Environment Corps

The PaSEC has been engaging senior volunteers (aged 55+) since 1997 in activities like water quality monitoring and stream assessments, macroinvertebrate identification, riparian buffer assessment, trail restoration, clean-ups, marking of abandoned wells, and environmental education.

As a sponsor, your organization serves as a local host in your area, making sure volunteers feel connected and advising them on projects. Several types of organizations currently host SEC groups, including conservation districts, aging organizations, nature centers, community centers, and other environmental non-profit organizations

As every area of the Commonwealth has different needs, as sponsor, you will guide your SEC on what types of projects to become involved with, whether it be one of the activities listed above or another environmental activity such as community gardening.

Nature Abounds coordinates the PaSEC on the state level and the national level and can provide equipment and training for water quality activities.

In 1999 the program was recognized by the United Nations Environmental Programme on the Global 500 Honor Roll along with Jane Goodall, and Jacques Cousteau and other significant environmental programs.  The recognition was presented by the Emperor of Japan.

The PaSEC is currently active in eighteen counties in Pennsylvania. Also, in 2013, the SEC program will be launched in Maryland.

To express interest in becoming a SEC sponsor or if you have additional questions, please contact Nature Abounds by sending email to: sec@natureabounds.org or by calling 814-765-1453.
