Metlab Potero Reduces Oil Waste, Energy Costs

Metlab Potero, a heat treatment company located in Wyndmoor, Montgomery County, reduced its energy costs by $52,500 and its oily waste by 10,000 gallons a year.

The company installed a new high efficiency compressed air system that reduces the amount of electricity they use and oil waste.

In the past year, Metlab has reported saving 10,000 gallons of oily condensate and 304,300 kilowatts of electricity. In addition, the company has reported lower maintenance costs as well as reduced labor costs. The company has realized an annual savings of $52,500 including an increase in production in the first year since implementing its project. The company projected a simple payback of 1.2 year.

Metlab Potero previously received funding for their first project that involved the installation of a new cooling water collection and recovery system.

These improvements were made possible with the help of a loan under the Small Business Pollution Prevention Assistance Account. The program helps companies purchase or upgrade equipment, or to implement a process change, that reduces or reuses raw materials on-site, reduces the production of waste at the source or significantly reduces energy consumption.
