Hawk Mountain Hosts Feed The Birds Program Feb. 16

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary will host a full-day "Feed the Birds" program from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., February 16. The event will include kids activities from noon to 2 p.m., a guided winter bird walk at 1 p.m., two live raptor programs at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., free information on birdfeeders and bird seed, and a naturalist on hand to point out and identify birds at the feeder windows. Common winter birds at Hawk Mountain include cardinals, chickadees, nuthatches, Carolina wrens and dark-eyed juncos, among others that frequent the bird feeders at the Sanctuary Visitor Center. Uncommon feathered visitors of late include a piliated woodpecker, brown creeper and the common redpoll. Visitors during Feed the Birds will be treated to complimentary hot chocolate or bird-friendly, shade-grown coffee. Trail admission will be charged for those who visit the lookouts and trails, and cost $6 for adults, $5 for seniors and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Members receive free admission year round and memberships can be purchased at the Visitor Center or through the Hawk Mountain website. For more information, call 610-756-6961.
