Senate Environmental Committee OKs Mine Water Reuse, Natural Gas Use Bills

The Senate Environmental Resources and Energy Committee meets February 12 to consider legislation to encourage the reuse of mine drainage water as drilling fluids and a resolution to study natural gas infrastructure expansion. The bills include-- -- Senate Bill 411 (Kasunic-D-Somerset) providing for the reuse of mine drainage as drilling fluids was amended by the Committee; and -- Senate Resolution 29 (Yaw-R-Bradford) directing the Center for Rural Pennsylvania to study the potential for increased extension of natural gas distribution infrastructure by natural gas utilities to un-served and under-served areas. Click Here for comments by Sen. Yaw on this resolution. The Committeee did not consider Senate Bill 258 (Yaw-R-Bradford) relating to the abandonment of mineral rights, but Sen. Yaw announced the Committee would be having a hearing on the bill to air concerns about the bill. He noted this bill will be run and explained he believes it is needed by landowners. Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Bradford) serves as Majority Chair and Sen. John Yudichak (D-Luzerne) serves as Minority Chair. |
