3 Workshops On Enhancing Tree Canopy In Communities Set In Allegheny County

Workshops are being held around Allegheny County to offer guidance creating municipal tree programs resulting in a successful tree planting program for your community. Participants will learn about the resources available to get the job done and meet the people who can help you move forward with your tree planting goals. The workshops will be held from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on-- -- March 1: Sharpsburg Borough Municipal Building, 1611 Main St., Pittsburgh; -- March 8: Steel Valley Council of Governments, 1705 Maple St., Homestead; and -- March 15: Carnegie Borough Municipal Building, One Veterans Way, Carnegie. Topics to be covered include: Environmental, social, economic, and health benefits of trees; Threats to trees from invasive species and poor management; How to set up a shade tree commission; How to conduct a local tree inventory; Site conditions for planting quality trees; Basics of tree maintenance; and Written and web based resources to get the job done.
