Stroud Water Research Center Seminar Series Continues On Watershed Science

The Stroud Water Research Center is kicking off its Stroud Seminar Series in 2013 with a free lecture by William H. Eldridge, Ph.D., on March 13: “Stream Fish Research and Conservation in the 21st Century:  New Tools for New Challenges.”

The series, hosted by the Center, features free lectures by leading freshwater scientists and educators and is designed to address global, national, and local issues related to water.

Water is essential to all life on Earth, and even today, in some parts of the world, wars are being fought over this precious resource. While water is renewable, it’s also finite, so the Center is exploring hot topics that will engage the public in discussions about tackling water-related challenges.

More upcoming lectures include:

-- April 17: “Planting Trees for Sustaining Clean Fresh Water.” Led by Center Director Bernard W. Sweeney, Ph.D..

-- May 15: “Microbial Fuel Cell Technology: Generating Power Directly by Microorganisms.” Led by Microbiologist Jinjun Kan, Ph.D..

All lectures are free and open to the public, are appropriate for ages 12 and older, and will be held in the Stroud Meetinghouse. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a free wine and cheese reception and a tour of the Center’s new green building, the Moorhead Environmental Complex; lectures start promptly at 7 p.m.

Sponsors include Susquehanna Bank and Arthur Hall Insurance.
