PRC Sponsors “Hard to Recycle” Collection July 16 in Pittsburgh

The Pennsylvania Resources Council is sponsoring another “Hard to Recycle” collection event at its Construction Junction building materials recycling center in Pittsburgh on July 16.

As a special bonus, Best Buy has partnered with PRC to offer Gift Cards to the first 30 individuals who drop off electronics at Construction Junction.

“Best Buy is pleased to be able to support the Pennsylvania Resources Council’s electronics recycling event,” said Paula Prahl, Vice President of Public Affairs for Best Buy. “We believe that as an electronics retailer, we should see that old products are effectively reused in the development of new products—keeping the product life cycle in motion benefits everyone.”

In addition to electronics, PRC will accept latex paint, tires, and large appliances for a nominal fee. Individuals may also drop off appliances at Appliance Warehouse, (523 Bingham Street – South Side) during the collection times.

Through collaboration with the Verizon Wireless HopeLines program, PRC will accept cell phones at no charge at its event—this includes the phone, charger and battery.

The award winning Verizon Wireless HopeLines program collects no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider. Most of the phones and equipment are refurbished and sold; then the company uses the proceeds to

purchase newer wireless phones for domestic violence survivors and to support domestic violence shelters and organizations. The remaining phones are recycled in an environmentally friendly way, preventing the dumping of waste into landfills.

Since January 2001, Verizon Wireless has collected more than 2 million no-longer-used wireless phones for the benefit of domestic violence victims and advocacy groups across the country.

Other sponsors of the event include the City of Pittsburgh and the Allegheny County Health Department and Office Depot.

There are fees for dropping off some items. Here’s the rundown--
