Cumberland County Gardening Workshop Helps Homeowners With Stormwater April 20

The Lower Allen Recreation and Parks Board are proud to announce our 9th annual Gardeners Gathering Event set to take place on April 20 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Lower Allen Community Park, 4075 Lisburn Road in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County.

The event will include a free workshop session focused on innovative ways to control stormwater as well as a “plant swap” event that’s sure to please new and avid gardeners alike.

During one of our workshop sessions, Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Master Gardener volunteer Rick Egenrieder will provide valuable information on reducing stormwater impacts to your home or local area by using a rain garden.

He will provide you with tips on successfully installing and maintaining your rain garden and will lead the group in a hands-on demonstration at the park to learn by helping us plant our new rain garden.

Our annual Plant Swap is always a big hit, too. How does it work? Bring your divided perennials (please provide a pot or container) between 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and receive a numbered ticket per plant that you bring; at 12:15, we’ll start “raffling off” each plant- you get to take one home for everyone you give away!

Again, all workshops are free and provide great tools for local residents. There will be drawings for plant giveaways as well as plenty of friends and neighbors to share ideas with, so don’t miss this opportunity!

We have been able to provide the above programs thanks, in part, to the generous support of our sponsors, PA American Water Company and the League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania Citizen Education Fund.

For more information, check out the Lower Allen Township website and download the event flyer or call 717-975-7575, ext. 1402. Please join us for a perfect start to the spring season!
